**Yet to be answered from index card submitted the night of the presentation…**

**How many Connecticut school districts are currently using CPM and what are their standardized tests results? Do their middle school districts have more than two levels of mathematical instruction per grade level?**

**CPM has been around for 2 decades and has taught 5 million students, so please discuss any research from independent consulting groups that assess how students using CPM score on standardized tests (SAT, ACT, Entrance Exams to private schools).**

**How is our district quantifiably assessing this new program with control and comparison groups? At the math night presentation the administrators presented pie charts showing two dissimilar testing methods to compare two months worth of data… “More students were receiving A’s this year than last year” – What tests are they using? Is this a comparable comparison?**

**Why doesn’t our district utilize a survey, developed and administered by an independent party, to parents, students and teachers to obtain input regarding the new curriculum and experiences during the first several months of its implementation?**

**Why does Dr. Title and his Administration refuse to meet with parents in an Open Forum to address the concerns of parents and students?**

**It appears that group testing allows for better test scores that may inflate the success of the curriculum. How do you account for group testing’s failure to provide adequate feedback for teachers to find and support students who are not learning. Why do you believe group testing is preferred to individual testing?**

**If CPM is a preferred curriculum and teaching method, why are so many students doing poorly and being taught by expensive private tutors?**

**Why was CPM never mentioned at any of the Three Math Presentations held by Administrators?**

**How is the district monitoring the effects of this “constructivist” instruction on students with attention deficit disorder, learning disabilities, 504 accommodation plans, IEP’s (approximately 20% of the student body)? Many students have stated that this new method has fostered distractions leading them off task**.

**Why are certain members of the BOE and administration in such a rush to make this drastic change without parent, teacher and student input? Without the benefit of independent research? Contrary to other superior performing school districts**?

**How much has the implementation of this new curriculum cost and was this cost part of this year’s budget? Who approved this cost? How much will it cost in the future? Since CPM implementation requires extensive PD, and PD has been cut from the budget this year, how will the district provide the proper training for this new instructional approach?**

**Why is our district using a textbook that has not been approved by the BOE? Under the General Statutes of Connecticut (Sec. 10-229), it states “no board of education shall change any textbooks used in the public school except by a two-thirds vote of all members of the board, notice of such intended change having been previously given at a meeting of such board held at least one week previous to the vote upon such change.”**

**Why is the district so adamant about this controversial program when there are more reputable and well received programs, such as Singapore Math? Have we looked into a top MATH PROGRAMS in TOP DISTRICTS that are currently being used? Have you looked into Singapore Math implemented in Bridgeport, Wilton, Westport, Farmington, Weston ? Are you considering Singapore Math for the Elementary Levels? … A PROVEN Math PROGRAM!**

**Could struggling Algebra I and II students opt out of this curriculum program rather than hire tutors for instruction, since this curriculum has not been approved by the BOE ? Fairfield Students WANT A CHOICE FOR THE MATH PROGRAM! **

**These questions have yet to be addressed in an Open Forum with answers accessible to all parents. These questions have not been answered at the most recent BOE meetings… WHY?**
